Apartments in Cypress, Texas
make a great place to host your first gathering. Whether you are making a holiday meal for the first time, or you want to have a gathering for your friends, it's time to think about how you can make a large gathering in your apartment work.

Consider Your Setup

Take the time to figure out where everyone is going to sit during the meal if you are going to be feeding a large group. Borrow a few folding tables if necessary. Look for ways to remove clutter from your space. Rearrange furniture as needed to open up your space. It is more important to provide enough room for everyone to sit down than it is to worry about using things like lawn chairs to create additional seating.

Keep the Meal Simple

As you are hosting your first holiday meal, keep the menu as simple as you can. You don't have to put on a fancy spread for your first gathering. You want to be sure that you know how to cook everything on your menu before the big day, and not try out new recipes when you are hosting a party for the first time.

Accept Offers for Help

If someone is willing to make a few appetizers for your party, or they start to wash the dishes without being asked, let people help you. When you are the host of a party, you will find yourself working harder than you might expect. If you have help, don't discourage people from lending a hand. When you have a number of people cleaning up after a big meal, this can make the work go quickly.

Remember to Have Fun

You can have fun at a gathering without having every detail perfect. Know that your family and friends are there because they want to spend time with you. Try to relax and enjoy the party instead of worrying about things you can't control. If people are late or something happens to one of the dishes you are making, you have to let this go and move on with the rest of the party.

If you are looking for a new apartment, check out the different floor plans we have to offer at this time.

The last few years have seen increasing numbers of people working from home. While working remotely offers considerable flexibility and freedom, it also comes with its share of challenges and distractions. Whether you work from home once or twice a week or full-time, here are some tips for making the most of your telecommute.

Establish a Schedule

When you're telecommuting, it may be difficult to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Establishing a regular schedule can help you keep work tasks separate from other responsibilities and reduce the pressure of feeling as though you're always "clocked in."

Set Boundaries

When you work from home, people may think they can contact you 24/7 about anything job-related. Decide that, after a certain time, you will no longer respond to work-related calls or emails, unless it's an emergency. Likewise, friends may think it's all right to call or visit anytime, just because you're at home. Consider ahead of time how you will handle these interruptions, and tactfully remind others to respect your schedule.

Have a Designated Work Area

When you work from home, it can be tempting to grab your laptop and camp out in your recliner or on the couch. You'll likely get more accomplished though, if you have a designated workspace, such as a home office or even a desk in a corner of your living room.

Take Breaks

When you're working solo, you can become so absorbed in what you're doing that you may not take time to come up for air. Take breaks periodically to re-charge your brain and avoid burnout. Every so often, or whenever you complete a major task, give yourself 15 minutes to browse social media or take a brisk walk around the block.

Avoid Isolation

Telecommuting can be an isolating experience. Consider taking your work to a nearby coffee shop occasionally or even renting a co-working space. A little human contact can provide much-needed motivation. Reach out to others regularly and make a point to spend quality time with friends and family when you're not working, too.

Telecommuting residents of our Cypress, Texas apartments enjoy frequenting our business center and computer lounge. Contact us to learn more about the many amenities we offer.

There’s nothing like coming home to a space that’s clean and clutter-free. But even when your apartment is spick-and-span, you likely have cords, computer chargers and other unsightly electronics that mar your otherwise inviting decor. Here are a few decorative ways to conceal your electronics while keeping them within easy reach.

Baskets

All it takes is a wicker basket with a cut-out handle and you’ve got a simple yet effective hiding place for that jumble of cords behind your desk or TV. Simply bind cords neatly with a zip tie and thread the plugs through the basket handle to your wall outlet. Another option is to hang a wire basket from hooks beneath your desk or cabinet and place bundled wires or a powerstrip inside for convenient out-of-the-way storage.

Hidden Among Hardbacks

Is your cable box a bit of an eyesore? An easy solution is to cover it with decorative paper and position it between a stack of books. Ugly cable box begone! You can also use this technique with unsightly cords by stowing them inside a small cardboard box covered in wrapping paper and then placing the box between several hardback books.

Adhesive Hooks

Are your cords lying on the floor collecting dust bunnies and creating a messy look? You can easily attach them to the back of your sofa or other furniture using small adhesive hooks to keep them hidden from sight.

Decorative Box

A small decorative box made of thick cardboard is the perfect charging station for your smartphone. Simply cut out a space for the cord to extend to your wall outlet and you’ve created a tucked-away spot for your phone — and a stylish accent piece to place on your nightstand or kitchen counter.

Toilet Paper Rolls

Want that tangle of cords in your living room to look unobtrusive and tidy? Simply take several empty toilet paper rolls, cover them with fabric that matches the color of your walls, and slide a bundled cord inside each one for an attractive blended-in effect.

Do you need a serene, clutter-free place to call home? At Carrington at Barker Cypress, we offer a beautiful apartment community that includes a newly renovated fitness studio, outdoor pool and spa. Contact us to find out more about our apartments in Houston, Texas, by calling 877-655-7991 today.

When living in apartments in Cypress, it can be easy to keep things clean, even when a busy lifestyle can use up your cleaning time! To help you clean more efficiently, here are some healthy cleaning tips.

Tips for Cleaning an Apartment

1. Store Seasonal Clothing

Use hard-to-reach closet space to store clothing that is out of season. That makes selecting clothes much more efficient.

2. Create a Mudroom Near the Door

Help keep your apartment clean by reducing the amount of dirt you bring in. Add an umbrella stand, hooks for wet coats and hats, and a shoe rack near your door.

3. De-Clutter Your Kitchen

Kitchens are generally the room used the most in any home or apartment. That makes keeping it clean important. Storing or donating items you never use is helpful. Find better homes for your paperwork and tabletop appliances.

4. Store Old Books and Magazines

Storing old books and magazines in a closet or bookcase will help keep your bedroom and living areas clean. It’s so much easier to clean tables and countertops when nothing is on them. Another option is to donate them to a library.

5. Put Together a Caddy Full of Cleaners

It takes so much less time to carry cleaning supplies from room to room if you have them in a bucket or caddy. You don’t have to worry about the bottles damaging the furniture, and you waste less time going back and forth.

6. Do Your Dishes After Every Meal

This sounds like a no-brainer, but cleaning those dishes immediately makes them much easier to clean, and you won’t leave a pile in your sink or on your counter. Food can attract insects and spoil on dirty dishes.

7. Clean Highly Used Areas Often

You might live with a messy bathroom, but it’s healthier for you and your guests if you clean the high-frequency areas a few times a week.

In Conclusion

Cypress, TX, offers high-quality apartment living. And these tips will help you maintain a cleaner living space. If you’re interested in available floor plans, contact our office.

When you move into a new place, there are all kinds of things you probably want to do. One of those could be entertaining people or having a party. If you're planning on having a large group of people over to your apartment, though, you'll want to make sure you have enough seating, food and activities. You also want to have room for people to walk around and interact with each other easily. There's a delicate balance between providing enough places for people to sit and enough room for them to move. Here are some of the main things you'll want to consider, so your time with friends and family members will be a great one.

Good Preparation Can Equal a Great Time

There are so many great things about the apartments at Carrington at Barker Cypress, and having enough space to entertain is one of them. But even the roomiest apartment can feel crowded if you get too many people in there at once, or if you don't have your furniture and decorations arranged the right way. Fortunately, those things are pretty easy to fix. Before scheduling your event, consider the following tips:

1. Have get-togethers more often with smaller groups.

2. Utilize outdoor space, like a deck or balcony.

3. Keep your furniture and decoration more minimal.

4. Avoid sit-down, formal meals and opt for serve-yourself options.

5. Use storage areas for extra, non-perishable items.

6. Expect and enjoy the close quarters and interaction with others.

Apartments Can be Great Entertaining Spaces

You can have people over and enjoy their company in just about any apartment. If you're mindful of the space you need and you invite people you really like spending time with, your event will be more successful. Make sure you're realistic about the room you have. A spacious apartment can easily hold quite a few people, but if you're planning an event that's really large, you may want to hold it elsewhere or use the community's outdoor space. As a resident, you probably have more options than you think to entertain the people you love.

Your great, new Cypress apartment can be a source of real joy and connection. Contact us today, and take a look at the floor plans we can offer for your next entertaining space.

kitchenWhen you’re looking at apartments in Cypress, there are a few things that will matter most to you. For almost everyone, the kitchen is on that list. We all want a spacious kitchen that helps us be our best when we’re cooking and entertaining. Regardless of where you finally settle, not every kitchen is big enough. These items can help you make your kitchen feel a little bigger.

The Mobile Island

Chances are that your apartment kitchen is without an island. There’s also a good chance that you don’t have abundant floor space to put an island. That’s why mobile islands are so amazing: They can be tucked in a corner or closet when not in use, and you can simply roll them to the kitchen when it’s time to cook. They add valuable counter and storage space without eating up precious room inside the kitchen.

The Pegboard

Pegboards are a great way to increase vertical storage inside your kitchen. They can hold pots and pans, cooking utensils, or anything else you can creatively fasten to the wall.

They definitely don’t have to actually be a pegboard. Wire organizers and even basic shelves can get this job done. What matters is that you put your wall space to use. When you do, you get things off the counters, and the kitchen will feel much bigger and more welcoming.

Paper Plates

OK. This is more of a process than an item, but this is important. The single biggest killer of kitchen space is dirty dishes. Even if they’re only in the sink, they feel oppressive. You need to invest the time and energy to overcome persistent dish problems if you really want to get the most out of your kitchen. Some of that will require habit changes. Some of it is really easy. If you use fewer dishes, you don’t have to clean as much. Whether you literally employ paper plates for this or not isn’t what matters. What matters is keeping your kitchen clean and clear.

Then again, you can always look into getting a bigger kitchen. Take a tour of Carrington at Barker Cypress to see what a modern, efficient apartment kitchen feels like.

Dog parks can be a great place to take dogs for socialization and exercise. However, it’s important to follow certain rules of etiquette to ensure your visits are safe and enjoyable ones for you and your dog. Keep the following in mind the next time you head over to the local dog park.

Clean up After Your Dog

One of the most basic rules of dog parks is to clean up after your dog. Piles of dog feces can become a health risk, and they can make dog parks unsanitary and unpleasant to be in. Bring bags with you from home to dispose of your dog’s waste. Some dog parks have these bags handy, along with wastebaskets, but not all do. Clean up after your dog as soon as he or she’s done rather than letting the pile sit there. This helps prevent people from accidentally stepping in it and lowers your risk of forgetting to pick it up.

Watch Your Dog at All Times

While you’re at the dog park, your dog’s behavior is your responsibility. Even if your dog normally gets along well with other dogs, it’s important to keep an eye on him or her at all times. While you’re chatting with another dog owner or relaxing on a bench, be sure you know where your dog is and what he or she is doing. Fights between dogs can break out at any time for various reasons. Being able to deal with these potential conflicts right away can help prevent fights from occurring.

Have Up-to-Date ID and Vaccinations

Ensure your dog has a collar on with license and microchip tags that are up-to-date in case he or she manages to get out of the park and runs off. Since your dog will be around many other dogs at the dog park, it’s also important to be sure that he or she is current on vaccinations. This helps keep your pet(s) safe from certain types of diseases dogs can spread to other dogs. Have your vet administer any vaccines your dog isn't current on before going to the dog park.

officeWorking from home is more common than ever. Whether you have a job that lets you entirely telecommute or you only do it a few days a month, you need a workspace that helps you get the job done. Searching for apartments in Cypress that facilitate a home office can help, but no matter where you choose to live, there are ways to make a functional office that works for you.

Find the spot

It’s important to find a niche in the apartment. If you have a dedicated room for the office, that’s amazing. If space is less free, that’s fine. A corner in any room can serve as a good office. You can even convert closet space that you can afford to sacrifice to the cause. What matters is that you pick a spot and commit to it. After that first step, you’re going to build the office around the space. Select the space because it’s a place where you can work with minimum distraction.

Get the right furniture

The location of the office will dictate what you can put there. Regardless of where that is, remember to utilize wall space. Installing a few shelves can amplify your office space without eating up the rest of the apartment.

As for the desk itself, you might have to go custom. Remember that you can build a functioning desk out of plywood and a few screws if necessary. All that really matters is that you have workable furniture for the space you chose.

Another thing to remember is multifunctional furniture. An ottoman with storage can do wonders for your home office. It can free up space for the desk or office tools. In a pinch, it can even serve as a chair or additional workspace. Just keep in mind that ergonomics are important if you’re going to be spending long hours at work in your home office.

Delineate your space

It’s time to be real for a minute. The design of your office is not actually the key to efficiency. You are. What matters absolutely most is that you treat the office space as a dedicated place to work. Never use your desk space for general clutter. Don’t watch TV from your office chair. Don’t blur the lines between living areas and work areas. A careful delineation will make it much easier to go to work and come home, even though your commute is a few steps. This is the cornerstone of staying productive in a home office.

If you want to see which floor plans might better accommodate your home office, call Carrington at Barker Cypress and schedule a walkthrough.

puppyMoving into a brand new apartment can be an exciting time. Unfortunately, it can also be a stressful one — particularly for any pets that you'll be bringing with you. However, getting your pet acclimated to your new apartment is a lot easier than you might think. You just have to keep a few key things in mind.

Your New Home Is Your Pet's New Home, Too

By far, the most important thing you can do to get your pet acclimated to your new apartment is to let him roam within the space as soon as you can. If you happen to get the keys a few days early, for example, take your pet with you for an hour or two and let him explore. This will help prevent a sudden shock from setting in when your pet arrives in this new area — and is unable to go back "home" again.

However, you should also make sure that your dog or cat is crated during the actual move itself. This is especially true if you're hiring movers. Your pet doesn't need to be in their way, and your pet won't want them in his way, either. Safety is another reason that your pet should be crated during this time.

Along the same lines, you'll definitely want to set the rules of your new house in advance. Decide before the big day where your pet is or is not allowed to go and communicate that to the animal soon after arrival. Where does your pet sleep? Is your dog or cat allowed in your home office? What furniture can your pet be on and what do you want him to stay away from? Answer these questions for yourself first, then communicate them to the animal. You'll both be a lot better off in the long run.

Getting your pet acclimated to your new apartment isn't something that is going to happen overnight. However, by following these tips, your furry little friend will be well on his way to enjoying your new home every bit as much as you do — if not more.

To find out more information about how to get your pet acclimated to your new home or to find out more about some of the incredible apartments in Cypress that are available to rent right away, please don't delay — contact Carrington at Barker Cypress today.
